Egg Whites

A few weeks ago, I posted the ingredients and instructions regarding my favorite facial mask using a simple formula of egg yolk and almond oil. Oops, I forgot to suggest that the egg whites can also be used to cleanse the pores. Lather your face and remove with warm water after ten to fifteen minutes.

Working With Your Foundation

I realize that what I’m about to suggest may be obvious; however, a recent client complained to me about a new foundation she recently purchased and that it appeared too heavy. I suggested she mix it with her moisturizer and perhaps a bit of sunblock. Needless to say that it is perfectly fine to mix a few colors to achieve that perfect match, especially during the summer when you may need to match your face to your neck, etc.

My Favorite Face Mask

A mask made from egg yolks and seven drops of almond oil kept on your face for twenty minutes works as well or better than any expensive store bought mask. While cleaning and and softening your skin, it is simple and inexpensive to make. I would recommend using it every two to three weeks. I discovered this  formula many years ago while modeling in Paris and have never found a mask that has worked better for me. Enjoy!

Fabrics That Won’t Line Your Face

After sleeping on a cotton pillow-case all of your life, have you ever awakened one day to find a pattern from the material engraved onto your face? This can occur when the skin begins to lose elasticity and is no longer tight and can take up to an hour before those lines begin to fade. The solution to the problem is relatively simple. You need to take a trip to the store (where bedding is sold) and purchase a less abrasive material. I have found silk or sateen to work best for me.

One More Tip For Protecting Your Face In The Sun

I mentioned my falling asleep in the sun when I was a teenager in my last blog: however, I didn’t mention when at age twenty I spent the summer in Spain and gradually worked up a significant tan including my face. No bad sunburn or the need to soak in a boiling hot tub: however, two months later I developed two deep lines on my forehead. Yikes! I have never laid down again in the sun allowing my face to be exposed to the rays. Of course I go to the beach and wear my heavy duty sun block but if I lie in it directly, I “cover” my face with a cloth for extra protection. The good news is that to this day I have never found another deep line on my forehead or any place else. I suggest that you take a simple piece of material and cut out a hole for your nose so that you don’t suffocate. This is just yet another way to avoid those dreaded wrinkles and avoiding a laser peel.

OMG, I Fell Asleep in the Sun and I’m Burnt Like a Lobster! What Can I Do?

Back when I was a teen, I went on Spring break to Miami with friends. After two days, all three of my friends were in bed suffering from painful sun poisoning along with a significant fever and I was taking every precaution so that it wouldn’t happen to me. That is, until I fell asleep in the sun. As I was walking home barely able to move my baked legs with tears streaming down my face, I was contemplating joining my friends in misery. That is until a guardian angel who appeared in the form of an elderly Floridian man, spotted my fried carcass dragging its way back to the hotel. “I see that you have a bad sun burn but if you follow my advice you are going to be okay.” He instructed me to immediately run a bath as hot as I could tolerate and to sit in the steaming water for a good hour. I was greatly surprised as I would have thought that ice would have been the best alternative. Upon arriving back to the hotel and running the steaming hot bath, my friends would have agreed as they thought that the man was crazy and me even more so for complying. One look at them and I was willing to do anything that could perhaps help my situation. I am pleased to share that his wonderful advise was indeed right on and I was able to go out that night and enjoy the rest of my vacation. There was no preventing the peeling that occurred within a few days but I escaped a very unpleasant fate. I hope that this story will be helpful to any of you who might incur a similar mishap. Wishing you all a wonderful summer!

Tip for Tanning Spray

As I’ve been busy working on weekends, I haven’t had the opportunity to get to a beach and am sporting white legs; therefore, have turned to tanning spray when wearing a shorter dress. Unfortunately, the three I’ve tried have been far too yellow to match my skin tone. I’ve also found them to be a bit flat and missing a glow. Perhaps I am missing out on the right product; however, I found a solution to make the ones I purchased work for me. By taking a large brush and and a “shimmery” powder from my pink or peach pallet, I found a way to make it work. Just a dust of powder over my legs provided the color I hoped to find when I made my purchase.

The Art of Covering Veins

For those of you who may be self conscious of “spider veins” on your legs and feel uncomfortable wearing shorter dresses or shorts, there is a way to help conceal them with makeup. Apply concealer with a brush or a concealer pencil directly over the veins. As they are blue, use a slightly lighter color with a pinker tone to counteract the blue. If you have a tan or the area you’ve worked on appears lighter, daub on a darker powder matching the tone of your skin. I hope this is helpful!
